Facebook Messenger is a popular way of communicating, unfortunately, the Mac OS doesn’t have a dedicated or Android does. Indeed, you can use Facebook Messenger to message friends from OS X, and in moments, you can set up the Mac Messages app to operate as a Facebook Messenger client in OS X. According to a leaked photographic evidence and an eyewitness report, Facebook has been working on an as-yet-unrevealed Facebook Messenger for Mac desktop app. A photo has been leaked that shows a Facebook employee using the app which revealed that the social media giant is working to build an official Facebook Messenger app on the MAC. Before releasing an official Facebook Messenger app for Mac OS, a leaked image renders that Facebook has been working on this project. If the leaked blurry photo is apt, an official Facebook Messenger for Mac app could make it simple for people to chat whenever they’re on their PC or Laptop. Instead of getting engrossed in one of many web browser tabs that users have to switch to so they can text friends, the dedicated Messenger desktop app would be instantly accessible from the Dock. The social networking giant declined to present a statement or confirmation and said, “We don’t comment on rumor or speculation.” Facebook have been building a confidential Chat SDK that allows developers create chat bots. The more people that chat on Facebook, the more they get locked into the company’s line of apps and features, including Facebook’s News Feed where it draws money on advertisements.
These apps we listed here are free and capable to chat between Mac and Windows for an unlimited time without any cost. WhatsApp Day by day the numbers of WhatsApp users are increasing and the most attractive thing to the users is that the developers are upgrading the app with nice additional features. Step 9: If you’re on a Mac, the ability to have Facebook Messenger conversations right in the Messages app of OS X is indeed excellent, the conversations will appear beside other text messages and iMessages, Google Chat, Yahoo Messenger, or AOL / AIM communications.
In the photo shown above, it can be seen that the employee was working on the Facebook Messenger app on Mac OS that includes a navigation tab bar in the bottom left. It matches the tab bar options in official Messenger for an iOS mobile app, that includes “Recent, Groups, People, and Settings” menu. The leaked report said that the unofficial versions lack this tab bar. How to Use Facebook Messenger on your Mac using Messages App Using Facebook Messenger from the Mac is actually pretty easy, but it’s completely separate from configuring Facebook sharing from the Mac. However, if you are running, you can use the Facebook Messages app to have your Facebook conversations alternately.
This essentially turns your Messages app into a full-fledged Mac Facebook Messenger client. Here is a detailed guide on how to use Facebook Messenger app on your using Messages app. Step 1: Open the Messages app in Finder or from your dock.
In the drop down menu of Messages, choose “Add Account”. Step 2: Once you choose add account, you will notice that you can add a Google, Yahoo, or AOL account. From the message account screen, you need to choose the last option, “Other messages account”. Just hit the option, continue. Step 3: You will get a screen where you need to enter all the credentials for your Messages Account. Step 4: From the drop-down menu, select “Jabber” in the Account Type. Under the Account Name section, enter your Facebook ID followed by @chat.facebook.com.
[email protected] Step 5: Enter your Facebook password and then hit “Create”. Step 6: If you are not aware of your Facebook ID you can find it just by logging into your account where you can find it on the address bar. You user ID will be located as shown below: Step 7: Once you click Create, your Facebook friends will come in the “Buddies” list.
You can also click the “Add” icon in the main menu and choose Buddies to find the list again. Step 8: Just pick a friend who is online and messages anyone in the list, as usual, the conversations are going through Facebook Messenger.
Step 9: If you’re on a Mac, the ability to have Facebook Messenger conversations right in the Messages app of OS X is indeed excellent, the conversations will appear beside other text messages and iMessages, Google Chat, Yahoo Messenger, or AOL / AIM communications. Step 10: Once the Facebook Messenger app is added to Messages, you will be automatically logged into Facebook Messenger when the Messages app starts. Step 11: You can then log out of Facebook Messenger in Messages, from the drop-down menu of “Messages”, choose “Log out of chat.facebook.com”. Later, you can log in a similar way. That’s it, these are the simple steps to use Facebook Messenger app on your Mac OS X using Messages app. However, we got a leaked image of Facebook working on to bring Facebook Messenger app for Mac OS users.
If the rumors are true, you no more have to struggle to use Messenger on your Mac device.

GigantousGuy, 'FreeChat for Facebook Messenger Review' At first, I thought that using memory for a messenger that was nothing more than a replica of the original Facebook messenger on the Facebook website would be a waste. I did try one on my iPhone but I thought it took up too much memory and deleted it from my iPhone. Never in my wildest imagination would I think of using one om my computer where it is much easier for me to access Facebook and is also easier to see Facebook due to the screen being larger. Was I ever wrong! This messenger allows me better control of those I message on Facebook because I have it right with me when I want it. It works exactly like the original version too! It is also functions well.

On top of it, you get themes which is something Facebook doesn't offer for theirs. To say I am happy with FreeChat would be a gross understatement. Thank you EVER SO MUCH for making such a wonderful messenger app!!! I am eternally GRATEFUL for it!!!

Please keep up the outstanding work! Adrian232, It's free It's free, and it runs the Facebook Messenger webpage in an app container that handles notifications, so this app functions just fine for that purpose. There are a few odd flaws, however. Lots of popups when opening and closing the app, which are annoying and can prevent my laptop from shutting down smoothly.
It can't do video chat, likely due to it using the native WebKit framework since Facebook complains the feature isn't supported by Safari. The 'Dark' theme just changes most backgrounds to a darker color and nothing else, which makes it look very strange and unnatural since the rest of the theme wasn't designed for dark backgrounds. And for some reason, this app requires the dedicated GPU, which drains the battery dramatically on my MacBook Pro. This last problem is what forced me to have to find alternatives. One good thing is that, unlike some paid apps, the left column can be resized to your liking.
I'd say this app is perfectly good for anyone who needs a free standalone Facebook Messenger app, but most of the above issues could easily be dealbreakers as they were for me. Developer Response, Thanks for the detailed feedback. We'll consider your suggestions and improve the app in future updates. Review window should only show up once in a lifetime, welcome window is only at the updates to inform you about changes. If the windows come up more often it is caused by a rare OS bug. Please contact us at for a workaround at Thanks for your understanding! ZTS-, Great app! But, what’s going on with the power usage? On my computer, this chat program uses about four times as much power as everything else on the system combined. I’m running lots of tabs in Safari and lots of tabs in Chrome as well as multiple terminal emulators and KVM sessions and Remote Desktops all at the same time, and this is using 70 “Energy Impact” units whatever those are. Nothing else is ever using more than about 15 consistently, this is at 70 and it’s constant.
It works great, but it’s just not efficient with its use of my computer and my use of your program will have to stop just due to bad taste in the programming, even if it is convenient for me. Folks, check Energy use in Activity Monitor. If you’re on a desktop you probably don’t care, but I am on a laptop. EDIT: This even happens when I restrict my computer to the low-power Intel GPU using gfxCardStatus.
Also, I shouldn’t need my high power GPU for a chat program! Many inefficiencies here. Nice program visually, convenient, perfectly functional and no bugs that I’ve found, but it’s horribly inefficient. A few simple changes could make it a great program for everyone but it’s not suited to laptops right now. Developer Response, Really sorry for the issue, we'll improve the app in future update to address the problem! ZTS-, Great app! But, what’s going on with the power usage?
